All writers have their retreats, the places they escape to for inspiration. I was thinking about the places I go in order to create, plot, and dream. Here are my most productive:
Walking…
in the woods
in the snow
across a meadow
Sitting…
watching waves
under the stars
on a swing
watching a sunrise
watching a sunset
while doing methodical things like…
washing dishes
driving
taking a shower
blow drying your hair
falling asleep
(The worst since you must get up to jot them down or you’ll forget it by morning)
dreaming
(Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight idea came from a dream)
Where are your best places for creativity?
Also, please check out Saraflower’s blog here where she reviewed my book, Infinite Sacrifice. Thanks again, Sara!
the minute I wake up, waiting at the doctor’s office, while writing 🙂
I wish I got it while writing! I need to go to these other places and get inspired in order to write at my computer.
After I watch a movie. When I’m writing historical fiction, watching a movie during the time I’m writing about can get me to want to write. The visual pictures it can set in my mind help push my own images to the front of my mind. Also, coming across a photo or painting while doing my research.
You’re right, actually I get some great ideas from watching the history channel. Plus you can get some freaky fantasy ideas from watching the sci-fi channel too!
I can totally relate to being inspired by walking through a meadow or through the forest. Oh, and swinging on a swing – it just takes you away to another place and time. I love doing that, too.
I also find that rainy and foggy days really get my mind going to write fantasy. Music and fashion editorials also get me all creative.
It`s so cool how the creative mind works.
oh, I forgot about rainy days!
