I thought it would be fun to share with you all the playlist I listened to as I wrote Infinite Sacrifice. Even though they’re not the exact songs I listened to (I couldn’t find them on YouTube), they’re similar. I kept these songs on repeat every time I wrote, hoping it would help me create the ambience I needed for world building. I especially recommend doing this when you’re writing historical pieces.
Ancient Egypt:
Ancient Sparta:
Viking:
Medieval London:
I happened upon this little jewel and included it just for kicks 🙂
Thanks for sharing! 🙂 I especially appreciate the Viking song since I am half Danish.
I’ve got some red-haired viking in my blood too 🙂
That is so cool. 😀
So fun! Thanks for sharing, Lauren! 🙂
Love the new profile pic, Erin!

I would love to know/ maybe see a post on your thoughts on two things.
What do you think the current trend is in books? (I.e vampires ect)
And what do you think of the book hype of 50 shades of gray is getting. Will you read it and if so, why or why not? Thanks
Hi Erin! I don’t spot trends. “Interview With The Vampire” came out in 1976 and “Dracula” in 1897! There are always numerous genres in music too and the old remains valid. I buy novels from this year and before my birth. I don’t pick what’s popular. It’s about what draws me (vampires and “50 Shades”) do not) LOL. We can identify new genres that emerge, like the ‘cozy mystery’. I cover it a bit here: http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2012/04/09/favourite-genre-gothic-mystery/.
Gothic mysteries sound wonderful. I’ll have to check that one out!
That’s very interesting. I didn’t even know about that genre.
Hey Erin,
I can’t say that I have any inside knowledge of book trends, but I’ve noticed a surge in YA paranormal on forums and review blogs I frequent. Specific trends seem to be changing from vampire/apocalyptic/zombie to a combination of magical and shape-shifting focus.
I had to look up 50 shades of gray since I’ve never heard of it. It doesn’t look like something I’d be interested in, but I see that many believe that this is threatening feminism. The first thing I thought was what I’ve picked up on Criminal Minds (TV show about serial killer profilers). People in control usually seek out fantasies where they are dominated, so the appeal of this novel could actually be evidence that women are in feeling in control. Again, I’m no expert, but it might be another way to look at it.
“Check that one” meaning my article? I hope comments go there. LOL I need feedback on all blogs. I put in 3+ hours every time I post, then re-work later {shudder}. That gothic mystery essay, way more!
Hope Erin sees replies to her topic. I go to used stores and monitor “Amazon” like the stock market, begging gift certificates to fall from the sky! Young adult paranormal is old. Richard Peck did the ‘Blossom Culp’ series in the 70s and there’s Christopher Pike. Kid sections are so full of old paranormal novels, the interest merely continues. What’s new is the internet to chat about them.
50 shades is big with married mothers. I wonder if we’ll see a sudden trend of highly sexual books because of this books success. I’m surprised it’s on the best sellers list since its a lot like romance novels. I wonder how this hype started. Is it the power of word of mouth or the magic of PR?
How about a text list of title/artist/release year? Videos don’t load on dial-up. If we think about it, the largest % of any country is rural. High-speed access is concentrated in cities. More of us are stuck with slow internet than anyone thinks. Would gladly look up your songs via audio torrent. FYI a 2-hour movie takes about 5 days, re-dialing the phone line every 12 hours. But country living is great!
Sorry! I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll put together the actual songs I’ve listened to and post them here tomorrow 🙂
This is my actual playlist (I found them all on Itunes):
Egyptian Drums (Belly Dance) All Star African Drum Ensemble
