Just wanted to let all of my writer followers know that entries have begun for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards. The cash awards and publishing deals are pretty amazing, (not to mention the publicity!). I don’t think you have to be published yet to enter, so those of you who are looking for another way around the query process, this contest is for you! Oh, and best of all, it’s FREE!
For contest rules and guidelines, click here.
Hurry, they will stop taking entries on January 27th or after they receive their ten thousandth entry. Why are you still reading this blog post…go!
Ooh! I had no idea that this existed. Very cool and thanks for sharing this.
You should definitely submit By The Sword or Frozen. Good luck!
Thanks, I will. 😀 Good luck to you, too!
Sounds great, but for me the rules exclude mega-portioned novels. Or will they let me enter Newrael: Unavoidable Detour ten times? Well, maybe one day. Thanks for posting and I am spreading the word.
Amazon should really think of making a Breakthrough Novella or Novelette award. I have read some amazing indie ones this year and would love to see them acknowledged.
If you read the voluminous entry rules of this contest, the winner gets $50,000. Actually, that is not entirely accurate. They get an advance on royalties earned from their winning publication. That is…a poor prize at best. If you won the money, a publication deal and a fair percent of sales, I could see that as fair. Better still, you get the money, first refusal rights or an additional advance and royalties. For many, just winning is important for their career, but anymore, I am seeing contests that drop the ball on the type and quality of their prizes.
Money, first refusal rights or an additional advance and royalties would be fantastic. This is probably the reason why most authors on the KB forum say they’re entering the contest in the hopes of getting to the quarter or semi-finals. It is a great way of getting some extra attention to your novel. I like that there’s no entrance fee. It would be nice to make it through the pitch round (although I did come up with the pitch in twenty minutes).
Oh awesome! I didn’t know about this either! Thanks
I’ve heard of it before, but I never knew how to enter it. Thanks to lurking on kindle boards, I saw that ABNA opened up to entries this week. I probably don’t stand much of chance since my entry is a true series, but what do I have to lose! Go for it, Erin!
Kind of makes me wish I had something ready to go. Ah well!! 🙂 I’m still just trying to find time to read, let alone write!!
Oh, I think Voice of Asheva is definitely ready 🙂 I loved it.
Thanks Lauren for the heads up. I may just enter.
I came out in the semi-finals when I first started. Sounds like fun, and may give it a try.
Wow! That’s amazing! You should definitely enter again. Although, coming up with a pitch was excruciating. I felt like I was querying all over again 😦

Holy crow. Maybe I can furiously edit for the next few days and make it? I’ve only edited about 1/3 of my latest novel…
Don’t these things always crop up when you’re…almost…done. Maybe send in something you have waiting on the back-burner?
